The
BLOCKSTON Family of Nottinghamshire
The family name
is possibly from Blackstone (also as Blaxton near Doncaster). The
surnames Bloxham and Bloxholm are derived from the towns of those
names in Warwickshire and Lincolnshire, which are said to derive
from an Anglo Saxon 'Blocca'. It is possible Blocca had a farm in
Nottinghamshire between the two.
Note: There are
no BLOCKSTON families remaining in the UK (according to BMD from
1837 (rare BLOXTON), so all family of that name must have gone to
the US where the name currently survives in numbers.
