The BURTON Family of Late C18th/Early C19th Barton Under Needwood, Staffs., & the Birmingham area, Warwickshire

You are welcome to discuss this family Facebook

 Distribution of BURTON in 1881.

Head of the family appears to be Richard BURTON (possibly of Tatenhill, STS) = Catherine JOHNSON (c1732-1801), the d/o Michael & Elizabeth JOHNSON in Whittington, STS in 1768. They would be my probable 6xGGPs. Before Richard's death in 1776 Barton Under Needwood, they appear to have had only one child, Thomas BURTON (c1769).

Thomas BURTON = Elizabeth BODKIN in 1792 at Barton, my probable 5xGGPs. Their children at Barton Under Needwood:

·       Richard BURTON (1792) = Ann:

o   Thomas BURTON (c1815);

o   John BURTON (c1818);

·       Thomas BURTON (1794), my probable 4xGGF;

·       William BURTON (1796);

·       Elizabeth BURTON (1799), who may be the mother of my 3xGGM;

·       Catherine BURTON (1801-62) = John GOUGH in 1826 Burton on Trent;

·       Sarah BURTON (1803);

·       John BURTON (c1805-05);

·       Ann BURTON (c1805);

·       Jane BURTON (c1807);

·       Charles BURTON (1810-11);

My 4xGGF Thomas BURTON, Labourer = Hannah HEWKIN in 1815 Lichfield. My 3xGGM Fanny Eliza BURTON (c1822, Barton) is believed to be their daughter based on Thomas given as her father upon marriage to Daniel BICKNALL in 1840 Birmingham (my 3xGGPs), however no baptism has been found. There is an 1823 baptism for a Frances d/o Elizabeth (possibly Thomas's sister), which may indicate Fanny's true parentage. Other siblings include:

·       Joseph BURTON (c1815);

·       William BURTON (1816-59);

·       Elizabeth BURTON (1818) possibly = William TUNNICLIFFE in West Bromwich in 1845;

·       Hannah BURTON (1821);

·       Thomas BURTON (1824), last recorded on 1841 census in Wednesbury, STS;

William BURTON (1816) = Louisa Hannah SIDAWAY (1814-60) in 1839. William & Louisa witnessed Fanny & Daniel's wedding. After 1851 census, they emigrated to Melbourne, Australia.

William & Louisa's son William Daniel BURTON (1840) = Emma HYDE of Cheshire and had a large family in New South Wales, Australia.
