Although there is a recognised Gaelic origin for the family name in the Isle of Man, the Midlands name may have a separate and unrelated origin, if it wasn't an early immigrant family from the IOM or Ireland. The nearby villages of Quinton may be the origin. Since they were mentioned in the 1086 Domesday Book, it is likely "Quinn's or Quinney's Farm" may be the local origin of the name. A road in the centre of Bidford, near St. Joseph's church, is Quinney's Lane and may be related to the local family who may have been landowners in an earlier period.
